PERSONAL ARCHIVES OF THE CHURCH-HISTORICAL AND ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY MEMBERS AT THE KYIV THEOLOGICAL ACADEMY, STORED IN THE INSTITUTE OF MANUSCRIPTS NAMED AFTER V.I. VERNADSKY AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE RANGE OF SOURCES FROM THE HISTORY OF THE SOCIETY

Abstract

The article gives an overview of documents from the history of the Church – Historical and Archaeological Society at the Kyiv Theological Academy, stored in the personal archives of M. Petrov, P. Lebedintsev, F. Titov, S. Golubev and A. Krylovsky, in the Institute of Manuscripts of the National Library of Ukraine named after V.I. Vernadsky. Founded in 1872 as the Church-Archaeological Society and transformed in 1901 into the Church-Historical and Archaeological Society, the Society lasted until 1920 – the time of the liquidation of the Kyiv Theological Academy by the Soviet authorities. As the first such institution in Ukraine and in the Russian Empire in general, the Society has made a significant contribution to the development of historical science. It created the first Church and Archaeological Museum in Ukraine. In particular, members of the Church-Historical and Archaeological Society have taken a number of important practical measures to protect the sights of church architecture in Kyiv. The society carried out research in the field of history, archeology, philosophy and theology, established a historical and church school of the Kyiv Theological Academy. Following the example of Church -Historical and Archaeological Society and Church Archaeological Museum at Kyiv Theological Academy, similar societies and museums were created in other dioceses of the Russian Empire. The article reveals the historiography of research sources on the history of the society, systematizes the documents, based on information stored in the sources. The plae of the documents in the source corpus on the history of this society is shown.
